Nataliya Kril, 22, never used to have her ringer on, but now that’s all she listens out for– God forbid she misses a phone call from home.

Although currently living in Virginia, for Kril, “home” is Ukraine.

Growing up in the western parts of Ukraine surrounded by mountains, castles and churches in Ivano-Frankivsk, she wanted to pursue her dream of living in America, moving to New Jersey alone at 14 for school. But now, like many other Ukrainian-Americans, she feels regret. ...
